Student FAQs - Printing

How can I print at the Library?

If you have a Columbia email account (UNI) you can print from any workstation by sending your document to the Ninja terminals. From the Ninja terminal, select your print job from the list, enter your UNI and password, and your document will print. Our Printing on Campus web site has step by step instructions for printing at the Library and PH17.

If you would like to print to the Ninja printers from your own computer, you can configure your computer by following the instructions on the How to Setup Your Computer to Print @ IC document (please scroll down and select the appropriate link for your computer's operating system). There are also copies of this document at the help desk on the 2nd Floor of the Library.

How can I get the free page quota? How do I know if I'm entitled to the free page quota?

If you are currently enrolled in classes on the Medical Center campus and are not affiliated (enrolled in a program) with Morningside as well, you automatically receive a printing quota for use at the Medical Center Library when you establish your Columbia e-mail account. If you experience problems with your printing quota please contact the Information Commons.

When do I get my page quota? How many pages do I get?

Page quotas run per semester; you receive 700 free pages for Fall and Spring semesters, and 200 free pages for Summer semester. Unused pages do not carry over into the next semester.

NOTE: School of Nursing students receive a quota of 450 pages for Summer and Fall semesters, and 700 pages for Spring.

You must be enrolled in classes for the current semester to receive printing pages. If you are in a program on the Morningside campus, your semester's print quota may only be available there.

How can I get more printing pages?

You can purchase extra pages at the Information Commons Help Desk in increments of 50 for $5.00. These "paid" pages remain on your account until they are used up and do not expire at the end of each semester. Semester pages in your account will be deducted from your quota before any paid pages when you print.

Printing pages for both the Morningside and Medical Center campuses can also be purchased online at:
http://www.columbia.edu/acis/facilities/printers/purchase.html

How can I check my page quota?

Log onto myUNI and select the Check Your Print Quota link under the Printing heading.

How can I print if I don't have a Columbia email account or UNI?

Please come to the Help Desk on the 2nd floor of the Health Sciences Library to receive a logon and purchase printer pages.

Can I print double-sided?

All of the Ninja printers except for NinjaColor are able to print double-sided. If you'd like to print double sided, select File - Print and then click on the Properties button once you've selected the Ninja printer you wish to use. There is an option to print double-sided in the Layout window of the printer properties; if you are printing a Portrait-oriented page please select "Print on long edge".

Can I make overhead transparencies in the computer labs?

Transparency and other special types of paper cannot be used in the printers at the Library. The Health Sciences Library Photocopy Center, located on Lower Level I, will make color overhead transparencies and copies of your presentation. See http://library.cpmc.columbia.edu/hsl/photocopy.html.
