SAS and SPSS License Distribution Policies
The Information Commons site license distribution policies apply to the following software:
There are certain policies that are adhered to for all licenses and others that are specific to particular ones. Please see the individual
links above for specific policies on SAS and SPSS. General policies are categorized as follows with details below:
- Pre-Payment Required
- Site License Agreements Required
- Conditions of Bulk Purchases
- Proration Policy
- Media Distribution
- Support Issues
1. Pre-Payment Required
Payment must always precede software distribution. There will be no exceptions! No software or renewal information will be given out until we have received the proper form of payment. Students licensing SAS software may pay by cash or check made out to "Columbia University". All other payments must be made from a Columbia University FAS account.
2. Site License Agreements Required
New license and renewal license purchases require a signed site license agreement each time
they are licensed. Information Commons retains a copy of the license and a second copy is given
to the individual. Renewals as well as new purchases require submission of the renewal
form for the software.
3. Bulk Purchases
Each of the site licenses offered by Information Commons has a discount for bulk purchases.
The conditions for receiving reduced pricing for bulk purchases is as follows:
- All copies must be purchased at the same time.
- Installations must be administered entirely by the person who has licensed the copies (or a department affiliate
designated by them).
- Any licensee purchasing directly from Information Commmons (IC), i.e. where IC must
distribute the media and/or make arrangements for installation, will be charged at the standard IC pricing, even if the individual is in a
department which has purchased in bulk. For example, 1 additional copy will be charged at the cost of 1 copy as though it is the first copy
purchased, since it is considered by IC to be a new license.
- With IC's approval, additional bulk purchases must be made in increments of 5 or more. These additional purchases will be charged at
the incremental rate.
4. Proration Policy
SAS and SPSS do not allow for proration. Both programs have a set licensing period
that does not start at the time of purchase or installation.
- SAS has a license period of September 1st through August 31st of each year.
- SPSS has a license period of June 1st through May 31st of each year.
Both programs do not run after the expiration of the year's license.
5. Media Distribution
Installation media is no longer loaned out by Information Commons. Any new purchaser
of software, or any licensee who would like to upgrade to a new version,
must purchase the media containing the software at that media kit's
price.
Items can only be picked up between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. You must wait at least 24 hours after submitting the online form before picking up your order.
6. Support Issues
Information Commons provides these licenses as a service to the Columbia community.
We will answer questions about the installation and use of the software,
but the licensee is responsible for doing their own installation and for
understanding and maintaining his/her own hardware and operating system.
