SAS Site License Information

• This date is fixed by SAS and cannot be pro–rated. If you would like to receive an entire year’s usage, you must wait until August 31, 2008 to purchase the following year’s license (9/1/2008 – 8/31/2009).
• In addition, you must verify SAS version compatibility with your computer(s) prior to ordering.
• SAS orders cannot be refunded once the online form has been submitted.

The Information Commons (IC) provides this license as a service to the Columbia University Medical Center community. Potential licensees should refer to the policies regarding SAS and SPSS licensing at CUMC. Whenever possible, IC will answer questions about the installation and use of SAS. However, the licensee is responsible for the installation and for understanding and maintaining his/her own hardware and operating system.

Cost, Payment, and Dates

• The current dates of the license are 9/1/07 through 8/31/08. The price is fixed by SAS and will not be pro-rated. The software will not run after the license expires.
• All new licensees and those choosing to upgrade to a newer version of SAS will be required to purchase at least one installation kit for $95.00. This cost is in addition to the cost of the license(s). For example, the total cost of one new license is $290 ($195 + $95) for faculty and staff, or $220 ($125 + $95) for students.

• The cost is $125 per license for students who are using SAS for their own research. University funds may not be used for this discount. All new licensees and those choosing to upgrade to a newer release of SAS must also purchase a copy of the installation kit for an additional $95.
• Students may pay by credit card, cash, or check made out to "Columbia University".

How to License SAS

When ordering, please remember these important details:

• You are responsible for verifying the hardware and software requirements on any computer on which SAS is to be installed.
• If your computer already has an expired version of SAS installed and you wish to just continue running this same version, you must purchase a renewal license for the same version of SAS that is currently on your computer.
• If you would like to install SAS on a computer that does not currently have SAS, you must purchase a new license AND an installation kit. Only SAS 9.1.3 is currently available for this purpose.
• If you would like to upgrade the version of SAS that is currently running on your computer, you must purchase a new license AND an installation kit. Only SAS 9.1.3 is currently available for this purpose.

Please review all of these steps prior to submitting the online order form:

1. Complete the SAS Site License Agreement web form, linked at the end of these instructions.
   Students please note additional agreement conditions listed on the Site License Agreement form.
2. Once submitted:
   If purchasing a license renewal by FAS account, everything can be completed online. After submitting the form you can follow the instructions to accept and download your renewal license online; no further action is required.
   
Otherwise you must complete the following steps:
3. Please allow 24 hours after submitting the form for your request to be processed by the service desk staff. Pick up is only available between 9am and 5pm Monday through Friday.
4. Stop by the service desk on the 2nd floor of the Health Sciences Library to sign your license and pick up any installation material.
   • Licensee signature and a valid Columbia University ID card will be required to pick up software.
   • Students with a valid ID card must pay by cash, credit card, or check made out to "Columbia University". If paying by cash, please bring the exact amount whenever possible.
   • Everyone must agree to install SAS on only those machines for which you have paid. This is subject to auditing by SAS institute.
